The high-endurance sitting competition began at 11 a.m. Contestants were provided a soft armchair with a bottle of water and nothing else. Mobile phones were to be turned off. There was to be no shifting of the buttocks, although contestants were given a lead time of 15 seconds to settle in.
Tested in this round were duration, posture, degree of relaxation, and peaceability. Fidgeting was allowed three times. A fourth led to disqualification, although points were docked for all infractions. Special nodes tested brain activity.
The winner with a gigantic margin, and the current record-holder, was D. B. Sloth of East Texas, with time logged in being 72 hours 34 minutes and 21 seconds.
The next round – speed napping – will take place on Sunday at 3 p.m. Contestants are to bring their own pillows.
